Current openings

We are continuously looking for motivated bachelor, master and PhD students.

Please contact Prof. Dr. Franz Hagn (franz.hagn(at)tum.de) for further information.

Specific job openings

1.) PhD Position (65% TV-L E13 pay scale) structural and functional investigations of Bcl2 proteins in a native lipid membrane environment

2.) PhD Position (65% TV-L E13 pay scale) structural and dynamical studies of G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) and their interaction with G-proteins

The positions are located at the new Bavarian NMR Center building of the Technical University of Munich, which houses world-leading NMR equipment (500-950 MHz, 1.2 GHz instrument to arrive in 2022), as well as wet-lab space and biophysical facilities (CD and fluorescence spectroscopy, light scattering, calorimetry, mass spec, small angle X-ray scattering). X-ray crystallography and electron microscopy labs are located next door. Further information can be found at: www.membrane.ch.tum.de and www.bnmrz.org.

The successful candidate is expected to be highly motivated and work in project teams, be familiar with recombinant production and purification of (membrane-) proteins in E. coli. Knowledge in biophysical techniques for the characterization of (membrane-) proteins as well as experience in NMR and/or other structural techniques is a plus.

Each PhD position offers the exciting opportunity to work with biologically and pharmacologically highly interesting and relevant membrane protein systems and native membrane mimetics using a diverse set of biophysical and structural techniques, with a focus on NMR but also other methods, depending on the project goals. The successful candidate will be embedded in a highly motivated research team as well as the Bavarian NMR Center and the Helmholtz Center Munich Intitute of Structural Biology, which offers ample possibilities for collaborations as well as regular meetings and retreats to facilitate scientific discussions, training and networking.

The positions are open immediately. To apply, please send a single pdf file (motivation letter also stating the project area of the position, CV including the names of at least two references and certificates) via e-mail to franz.hagn@tum.de or office.membrane@ch.tum.de
