Research

The synthesis of new polar intermetallic compounds with transition metal planar layers or 1-D chains is the one of the focus of our research. Such compounds containing one- or two-dimensional d-metals are good candidate for new superconducting materials. Special attention is paid to structural characterization, study of electronic and magnetic properties as well as basic electronic structure calculations. The understanding of structure-property relationships is an essential key point for the development of new applicable material.

Methods and techniques:

• high-temperature reactions under inert conditions (arc-melting, induction melting, sintering, flux synthesis)

• X-ray diffraction (single crystal and powder methods)

• magnetic measurements

• electronic band-structure calculations based on density functional theory (TB-LMTO-ASA method)
