Research topic: Photonics in Metal-Organic Frameworks: Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) as materials for optical applications

Multi-photon absorption is one of the most important nonlinear optical (NLO) effects that can be used in optical limiting, fluorescence excitation microscopy and three-dimensional data storage. Metal-organic frameworks represent a novel NLO-material class, which shows such characteristics. The PhD project deals with the development of a number of non-linear optical active linker motifs and their incorporation in metal-organic frameworks. This material class then should be characterized structurally as well as towards their two-photon absorption (2PA) response. The over aiming objective here is to deepen the understanding towards a structure-(photophysical-)property relationship.
