Research topic: Porous and flexible Metal-Organic Frameworks - in situ characterization of host-guest interactions

Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) are very interesting crystalline materials based on metal ions connected through spacing ligands. One of their unique features is the capability of maintaining the porous structure upon removal, inclusion, exchange, or reaction of a wide selection of molecular guests, making them useful for many applications. The aim of this project is the understanding of host-guest interactions during removal and introduction of new guests in the porous matrices and the study of structural changes induced in the flexible MOFs by in situ variable gas-pressure and temperature X-ray powder and single crystal diffraction.
